“Organizational Alignment & Prioritization” was another common answer to the question, “If you could fix one problem with your team dynamics, what would it be?” on the 2025 Wichita Industrial Trade Show Leadership Pulse Survey.

If you could fix one problem with your team dynamics, what would it be?
Leaders said they had problems like:
- “Organization”
- “Prioritization”
- “Consistent direction and goals”
- “Better determination of objectives”
- “More buy in to the company’s goals”
Throughout my experiences in the business world, I’ve been the most frustrated when I wasn’t sure what I should be working on to contribute the most value to the strategic goals of the company.
Your people may feel the same way right now.
That means your people and business are not performing as well as they’re capable of performing.
You can start taking action right now to resolve this issue. Here’s what I recommend.
7 Steps to Improve Organizational Alignment and Prioritization
Here’s a simple 7 step technique you can use today:
- Create a list of the projects you want your teams to work on.
- Describe the projects well enough that everyone is clear on scope, milestones, schedule, roles, and desired outcomes.
- Rank the projects from highest to lowest priority.
- Actively communicate with stakeholders and engage in healthy debate.
- Draw a line separating projects you have resources for right now from those that must wait.
- Schedule monthly meetings to review progress with the key stakeholders.
- Schedule quarterly meetings to review the entire list and adjust priorities.
You may already have tools to facilitate this work. If not, you may be interested in the Project Review Scorecard Toolkit.

I’ve used these tools or versions of them (it’s fully editable so you can modify it as you like to fit your needs) throughout my career to improve clarity, communication, and efficiency for projects of various types and sizes.
It’s worked well for me and my teams and I’m confident it will help you deliver better results for your business as well.
If you have any questions about the Project Review Scorecard Toolkit, let me know. I’d be glad to walk you through how I’ve used it.
I’ve also applied another resource from The Table Group, the creators of the Six Types of Working Genius productivity tool.
The Advantage – Why Organizational Health Trumps Everything Else in Business
The approach I like to take to improve organizational alignment and prioritization, or Organizational Health, is based on Patrick Lencioni’s work outlined in the book, The Advantage. In his model, he outlines the Four Disciplines of a healthy organization:
- Build a Cohesive Leadership Team
- Create Clarity
- Overcommunicate Clarity
- Reinforce Clarity
You can get the book that explains these disciplines.

But, if you don’t want to take time to read the entire book, you can start by downloading the free guide from The Table Group. It’s only 3 pages long and will give you a good background to start making improvements in the organizational health in your business.
In these resources, you’ll discover how important meetings really are and why even small changes can dramatically impact your team’s productivity and performance.
Here’s a quick video to give you a quick introduction to the Four Disciplines of a healthy organization.
The Advantage is one of my favorite books on organizational health and I refer to it often. I hope you find it beneficial too.
What have you found helpful in your experience to help your teams stay aligned around priorities?
I’d love to hear your insight.
Helping you lead with clarity and confidence,
Greg
